Lakeshore East Gets A Grocery Store!
February 23, 2009
Magellan Development is extremely excited to announce the arrival of a new store at Lakeshore East: Roundy’s Supermarkets, Inc. has just signed-on as the full service grocer for the Village Market Center. Roundy’s Supermarkets, Inc. is headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and is one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest grocers, operating 152 retail grocery stores in Wisconsin and Minnesota. This 56,000 square foot store anchoring the Village Market Center will be Roundy’s first in Chicago.
Now that will certainly make living in Lakeshore East even more pleasant – having a grocery store right in your backyard (literally) as well as a CVS (planned to open on the ground floor of the Aqua building). Check out this recent Crain’s Chicago Business article for more information on the commercial developments in our community.
Pets In Lakeshore East
February 9, 2009
For many of our residents and prospective residents, their pets are part of their family. Accordingly, Magellan Development’s buildings are extremely pet-friendly, especially the ones in the Lakeshore East that surround our six acre park. After all, what dog wouldn’t love having a great space to run around in and play with other resident puppies right outside the door?
Of course, dogs aren’t the only animals welcome in our communities- cats, birds, rabbits, and other more exotic pets love to call Lakeshore East their home. So if you’re looking for pet-friendly real estate in Chicago, check out Lakeshore East – your entire family will be very pleased.
Chicago Real Estate Trends & Magellan Development
January 26, 2009
The Chicago Tribune’s real estate section recently featured an article that covered Chicago real estate trends and what we can expect in 2009 – and many of these trends fit perfectly into Magellan Development’s plans for upcoming year. For instance, the idea of new construction apartments (as opposed to condos) given the fact that the economy has made it impossible for many individuals to become homeowners in the near future. That said, people still want to live in unique, modern homes with high end condo finishes – thus, new construction apartments like the ones in our upcoming Aqua building.
Another key trend is the concept of urban and suburban villages, like our very Lakeshore East community. These developments include retail and commercial space as well as residential units, making them more like small, self-contained towns than a mere condo or townhouse development.
Check back later this week for more information about Chicago real estate developments and trends!

New Year, New Chicago Real Estate
December 29, 2008
The upcoming year promises to be one of the most significant for Magellan Development. First of all, the highly anticipated Aqua building is scheduled to be completed and condo owners and rental tenants will be able to move in and enjoy the Lakeshore East community environment. Of course, living in one of Chicago’s most prestigious and memorable buildings will certainly be enjoyable as well.
In addition to living in a building with one of the more innovative designs to grace the Chicago skyline in years, Aqua residents will also have the knowledge that they are buying into something eco-friendly – the building is LEED certified. Furthermore, they will have the comfort of many top notch amenities, from state of the art work out equipment to a theater room that lends a dramatic flair to simply watching a movie with friends. Last but certainly not least, Aqua’s condos and apartments are outfitted in the most luxurious manner possible, with high end finishes, appliances, and more. Overall, the Aqua building is one of the most exciting real estate projects in Chicago in quite some time.
Happy Holidays From Magellan Development!
December 22, 2008
Happy holidays to you and yours from Magellan Development! Our Chicago real estate development company has plenty to celebrate this year, including the fact that the Aqua building is nearing completion. Certain to be considered one of the most luxurious places to live in Chicago, this architecturally significant building should be nearing completion by early spring 2009.
There are plenty of other reasons for Chicagoans to celebrate, particularly if they live in the Lakeshore East community. For instance, a CVS drugstore and pharmacy will be opening in the ground floor of the Aqua building, adding a new level of convenience to the already very comfortable residences.
Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, and happy-whatever-you-celebrate from the Magellan Development Group!
Magellan Development’s Lakeshore East: In The Center Of It All
December 5, 2008
One of the many reasons that living in Magellan Development’s Lakeshore East community is that is quite literally situated at the center of everything. Bordered by the Loop on one side (perfect for people who work downtown), Millennium Park on another, and located next to the spot where the Chicago River meets Lake Michigan, Lakeshore East is the ideal place to live if you want to have your finger on the pulse of the city.
Besides being very close to the Loop, Lakeshore East residents also live only steps from Michigan Avenue and many of Chicago’s greatest museums, such the Art Institute of Chicago, home to one of the world’s premier collections. Furthermore, there is a wide variety of restaurants and nightlife options nearby, ranging from casual cafes to fine dining; there are also a number of eateries within the community itself (and new retail developments are planned as well). All of these reasons and more make Lakeshore East the ideal location for your Chicago home.
Magellan Development’s Aqua Making Waves, Indeed
November 30, 2008
Check out this fantastic article on the Associated Construction Publications website that covers the nearly complete rise of the Aqua building in our Lakeshore East community; here it is: Magellan Development’s Aqua Making Waves in Chicago. A choice quote:
“Aqua’s tower design distinguishes it as one of the most striking architectural designs in Chicago, and it’s McHugh’s job to bring this design to reality. “Aqua is one of our largest projects and it definitely has some complexities that some of the other projects don’t have,” says Dave Alexander, McHugh (Construction) senior vice president.
The tower’s exterior features a rippling effect – the facade is glass with undulating balconies that change slightly from floor to floor – that architect Jeanne Gang of Chicago-based Studio/Gang/Architects says mirrors the striated limestone outcroppings and formations that can be seen throughout the Great Lakes. Aqua’s design has received international attention for the “waves” of concrete that will compose the balconies.”
Of course, we know that an article can’t quite capture the magnificence of the Aqua building, but this one comes close.
